D.R. grew up in the coalfields of southwest Virginia, in Clintwood. From these hills, he grew his imagination and resolve to be an artist in his lifetime.

Now residing in East Tennessee, D. R. paints nearly every day and has an ever-changing collection of works. His subject matter is influenced by his love of place and Buddhist philosophy. His paintings are highly collected and hang in the homes and businesses of folks near and far.

D.R. is also an accomplished muralist and his murals are displayed in numerous places in the area. He also does sculptures of magical entities carved in wood.
